Soymilk has become a popular snack among urban dwellers in Bangkok following a health-conscious eating trend. Despite an increase in popularity, “authentic” soymilk made from soybeans without added dairy or starch, is not easy to find, especially one made on a wood stove thai imparts a wonderful smoky flavor. One of the shops where this rare type of soymilk is served is “Nam Tao Hu Tao Than” (Charcoal Soymilk) in Eight Thonglor. The shop’s owner inherited the recipe from her family who runs a famous soymilk shop in Ubonratchathani.
